From Pastor Jaime...

What about all the mess?
With half of the church basement torn apart, boxes of yard sale items encroaching on our social hall, Ventura Construction soon taking out the last of demolition and beginning to make the Family Life Center a reality, the question begs to be asked "What about all the mess?"

What will happen if there is a funeral and we need the social hall for a dinner? I need space to do this! Too much mess is making me feel uneasy at church! What can we do about all this mess?

Over time, a building that is left uncared for will begin to deteriorate and over a long period of time become very much in need of restoration. Oftentimes living with the slow progression of a building's demise, one hardly seems to notice that things are going awry, you simply get used to it.

The same is true about a church building. Oftentimes, we will hear that new carpeting is needed or a quick paint job will spruce up the space, or it's fine the way it is, we do not want it to change. However, the church building that has been entrusted to us is almost like a living organism in need of constant care. Throughout demolition, we have found hidden areas of disrepair something a coat of paint or new carpeting would never have revealed and certainly will not repair.

In the next several months, every group that uses the church will hopefully understand that dust will be our constant reality and each day will bring new challenges in coordinating ministry, but we can make it happen. For successful completion of the project to be realized, we will need to be flexible on many levels. If you are able to come in periodically and help with dusting or sweeping or moving things around, please let the church office know. We will keep a list of willing helpers and call when things need done. Also, and most importantly, pray. Pray for successful completion of the project. Pray for safety for our construction workers and all involved. Pray for the space, that it may truly become a safe environment for our children, family and youth ministry and Christian education to be fully realized. Pray that God will raise up leaders who work to staff, decorate, plan events and provide a sense of welcome for all that attend. May God truly bless our Family Life Center and the ministries that we share here at Evangelical, Duncansville. For me, it is truly a blessing to be a pastor of such a wonderful faith filled place of ministry.

Peace and blessings,
Pr. Jaime
